The Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oysterbay, in partnership with the Shree Hindu Mandal Hospital and Kidz Care Tanzania, is announcing their second free medical camp at Kerege Matumbi Primary School in Bagamoyo on Sunday, 18th March, 2012.

The first free Medical Camp was hosted by the Club in Chanika last year and more than 600 people were screened for malaria, HIV, Diabetes, ENT, eyesight and chronic disease risk factors. Free medicines and spectacles were given to the people diagnosed with relevant health and eyesight problems. This year, it is expected that the same number of people will be registered on a first come first serve basis.

“The purpose of the camp is to bring basic quality health services to people who would otherwise not have easy access to them,” said Thomas Scherer, Service Projects Committee Director of the Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oysterbay.

All people in the camp will be screened for malaria, anemia, diabetes, and hypertension. Optional HIV testing will also be available. This year’s camp will focus on malaria prevention, education, treatment, and as supplies allow, free mosquito nets will be handed out to camp participants. Each patient will also receive a general health checkup to identify other common ailments and risk factors. Counseling will be provided on life style factors such as nutrition and the role of exercise.

Over 50 doctors and support staff will be present to help with registration, screening and mosquito net distribution.  All tests, counseling and medical advice will be provided to patients free of charge. Referrals to hospitals will be organized as necessary.

Kerege Matumbi Primary School is on the main road between Dar es Salaam and Bagamoyo, 23km from Bagamoyo and 7km from the bridge to Dar es Salaam.

This year's medical camp is paid for by the fundraising activities of the Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oysterbay, including generous sponsorships from Tigo and CMC Automobiles and is made possible by the participation of volunteer medical staff and Rotarians.
