Service Above Self - Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oysterbay works with the Rotary Club of Sardegna Central, Italy to bring water to Kwala in the Pwani Region of Tanzania.
This story begins with Marika Mura and Luca Scarpa, two Italian volunteers who spent a year in Kwala, located in the Kibaha District of the Pwani Region of Tanzania. Sent on behalf of the Rotary Club of Sardegna Central, Italy, they spent time at Kwala Secondary School (KWASS) training both educators and assistants in the practices of agriculture. They soon discovered that, in order for their efforts to be sustainable, they needed to solve one of the problems plaguing Kwala - lack of adequate water for irrigating crops.

In early October, Marika and Luca visited one of our meetings last year and asked for our assistance. They had the support of the Rotary Club of central Sardegna, but they needed a partner in the area to help with providing management of resources within Tanzania for the project.  It did not take long for us to agree to help.

On December 7, 2012, tools and equipment worth almost 1.5 million Tanzanian Shillings was handed over to Kwala Secondary School (KWASS). This was made possible by generous support from Rotarian Milan Doshi of Doshi Hardware and the Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Bahari. Pictured are Oysterbay Rotarians Krutin Shah and Thomas Scherer from the Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oysterbay, alongside Marika Mura, one of the volunteers sponsored by the Rotary Club of Sardegna Central, Italy.
