Medicine donation to Ukonga Prisons Health CentreIt was really nice to meet the folks at Ukonga in person, to chat with a few prospective members (government officials who are keen), to see the fruits of all the work we put in, to hand over the medication, to address an audience in Kiswahili (it’s been a while!). The inspiration it provides is long-lasting. These are words from PE Aisha during medicine donation to Ukonga Prisons Health Centre. She said ''It is very easy, sitting on Zoom call after Zoom call, to forget what impact and community engagement looks, feels, and sounds like in Rotary''. |

The Four ways test Song |
Chartering a new Rotary Club of Ukonga, in the midst of this PandemicOur Club(Rotary Club of Oysterbay) not only has it been the biggest and most diversified club in Tanzania but matured and gave birth to six new Rotary Clubs in less than three years time. Chartering of the sixth Club by the name Rotary Club of Ukonga took place on 12th January 2021. Not only that members were asked to join Rotary in Ukonga but also we(Rotary Club of Oysterbay) took them hand by hand to help them see what Rotary means and gave them an experience of being Rotarians before chartering. We translated the Four way test, constitution to easy their way in, paid charter fee ( to encourage them) and when they decided to renovate a single class at Juhudi we as mother club asisted the second one!!! We are now working on a global grant for the two schools and on top of that Medical Camp is on the way.
|

Celebrating The Rotary Foundation |
World Polio Day Commemorated Worldwide on 24th October 2016 |
DG Jayesh Leads the Handover of a Boundary Wall to Msasani Primary SchoolThe Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oyster Bay celebrated the completion and officially handed over a boundary wall donated by the club to Msasani A and Msasani B primary schools. The wall has been built to increase security around the schools for the protection of students as well as schools’ properties where prior to the building of the boundary wall, the students and the schools’ properties were subject to uncontrolled and unsafe activities.
The building of the wall which costs about Tshs 35 Milion was made possible with funds raised on one of the club’s fundraising activities. Different stakeholders donated to the cause and enabled the wall to be built which creates a safer learning environment to students especially to girls.
The wall is part of continued efforts done by the Rotary Club of Oyster Bay in improving learning condition at the schools. Some of the work already done at the schools include building of two libraries along with stocking of the libraries with various books, provision of clean and safe drinking water for the schools, a one day medical camp where screening and treating of various medical conditions was done, teachers training and planting of trees.
The handover ceremony was attended by the club’s members as well as various leaders of the Tanzania and Uganda Rotary District. The District Governor Mr. Jayesh Asher lead the handover of the wall to the two Msasani Primary Schools.

With the visit, the club held a business meeting where committee directors presented their reports to the DG and in turn DG Bob shared his experiences and comments on how the club can improve in each area.
After the business meeting, DG Bob was taken on a tour at the Msasani Primary Schools where a number of service projects are undertaken in the two schools (Msasani A and Msasani B). The DG was warmly welcomed by a group of students singing and dancing to Tanzanian traditional tunes and we even saw some moves of his own.
It indeed was a fun visit, but did not stop the intended business. DG Bob presented a cheque to the school master which will settle the school’s water bill in assistance to the schools sanitation efforts. The DG also saw the libraries that were recently refurbished and stocked, and took a tour of other areas of the schools that are due for work.
We thank DG Bob for taking his precious time and spend the morning with us at RCDOB and wish him a great Rotary year ahead.
Pictures of the visit can be viewed HERE

DG Bob and AG Agnes will get a chance to meet the club members and hear about the club’s achievements and further goals for the year. DG Bob’s visit will be concluded with a short visit to one of the club’s service projects, The Msasani Primary Schools (Msasani A and Msasani B) where DG Bob will see the work done on the school libraries.
Along with the visit, DG Bob will present a cheque to the school Master for payment of outstanding water bill that the school owes to the water authorities. This support will ensure that the students have access to clean water for use at school, which works towards Rotary’s sanitation goal.

We are very delighted to be hosting DG Bob at the club and look forward to share with The DG our Joysterbay spirit.

Time to Reflect on Rotary CommitmentsIf you had not seen this article that was circulated in one of our weekly meetings, here's your chance. This is an article from a newsletter in Nairobi, The Asian Weekly.
Yes we know it's been a long time since the induction, over three months after the ceremony, however, let's take a moment to recall the commitments made on the induction night and work towards the club goals. It is not too late, we still have (a little less than) nine months to go and with commitment a lot can be done.
See you all at next week's weekly meeting. Tuesday, 7:30 am at Golden Tulip.
Let's go Joysterbay!

Towards Vijana Poa: A Word from Don Bosco Youth CentreIn our recent club meeting we were visited by a team from Don Bosco Youth Training centre and we were delighted to hear of the program they have for the youth. This is surely something we are just getting our hands on but we are very excited that this is a project that may well go in line with the District’s Vijana Poa program.
The Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oyster Bay applauds efforts by institutions such as Don Bosco youth centre which aim towards youth development and looks for ways to be involved and make a greater impact in the surrounding communities.

Celebrating 6th Club AnniversaryThe rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oyster Bay, famously known as Joysterbay, celebrated its 6th Club Anniversary on Tuesday, 28th July 2015. The club which meets every Tuesday for breakfast at Golden Tulip, changed it’s meeting venue and time for this week’s meeting and instead met in the evening at Keg and Dhow for what turned to be a strict business meeting and yet a very fun social event.
Visiting Rotarians from other clubs in Dar es Salaam joined us in celebration of the anniversary and had the opportunity to watch a presentation from Read International on the status of one of the club’s service project, the Msasani Primary School library.
Rotarians and guests were invited to the handover ceremony where the Library will be officially handed over to the school ready for use. The handover will be done on Tuesday 11th Aug, at Msasani Primary School from 08:30am.
Guests and visiting Rotarians also participated in the game of Jeopardy organized and ran by Rtn. Marcus and Rtn. Yashica before proceeding to the social part of the evening.

Karen Cockerill Joins Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oyster Bay.Karen is an Industrial Psychologist and Managing Consultant and when she has some spare time, she spends it kayaking. It is no surprise that Rtn. David Legge, her kayaking friend, introduced her to the club.

We believe the Rotarian community will find Karen a very valuable addition to the family. The Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oyster Bay is very excited to have Karen on board.

Rotary Club of DSM Oyster Bay hands over more than 63 Million T Shillings to scholarsOn 21st October, 2014 our weekly meeting wasn't like our usual weekly meetings. While the club members were almost outnumbered by the visiting Rotarians and guests, we had one of our most touching moments in this Rotary year where we became a part of a very good morning to the students who won the scholarship as organized by the club’s scholarship committee. An ordinary morning to some people, but to some of these young boys and girls, this morning opened new doors in their education journey while to others who were already in the scholarship program, the morning was a promise renewed.
